Sideload Apps to Amazon Fire TV & Stick using ADB

The Amazon Market Place provides some great apps to download onto your Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick however these are Android devices and there are so many more available. Did you know that you can install any application on the Google Play store to Amazon devices? To do this you must download APK files from Google Play and then sideload apps to Firestick. In this post we show you how to use the ADB application to add apps to Fire Stick and Fire TV devices.

The sideload apps to Fire Stick and Fire TV process can be completed in 3 easy steps. These include downloading the required software, preparing the Amazon device and sideloading the APK files.

1. Download and Install Android Studio

The first step to install APK file to Fire Stick or Fire TV is to get the ADB executable onto your system. It comes as part of tthe Android Studio and can be downloaded for free. Navigate to the Android Studio download page here. Select the Download button found in the centre of the page. When the software has fully downloaded install it to a location of your choosing. 2. Get You Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick Ready for ADB

Now we need to allow access for the ADB application to your Amazon device. To enable this select Settings on the main menu of the Amazon device and then choose System. In order to connect to our Amazon Fire TV Stick device with ADB we need to find out it’s IP address. To do this select Settings on the left hand pane and then select System - About - Network. 3. Sideload Apps to Fire Stick or Fire TV using ADB

We are now at the business end of the post and are ready to sideload apps to Amazon Fire TV stick. The process is simple and there are just a couple of commands to enter. To simplify things, take the APK file that you want to install and drop it into the same folder as your ADB.exe file. The default location for this when you install the Android Studio is C:\Users\media\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\ . Next open up a command prompt by typing the command cmd in the main Windows Cortana box at the bottom left of your screen. When your command prompt opens you must switch to the folder that contains both ADB and the APK file you want to install. You can do this using the following command: cd\Users\media\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\platform-tools\ . As before, change the user (shown in bold above). Navigate to the ADB Folder

ADB Application Install Commands

To install APK file to Fire Stick or Fire TV we must first connect ADB to your device. You can do this using the following command:

adb connect 192.168.0.8

Once connected, to add apps to Fire Stick or Fire TV simply type the following command:

adb install YourApp.APK

Replace the “YourApp” part with the full name of the application file you are looking to install. The ADB aplication will now install APK file to Fire Stick or Fire TV. It may take some time depending on the size of your APK file and your network connection. Install APK File to Amazon Device

Here the Tennis TV Android APK file was downloaded from the Google Play Store and sideloaded onto an Amazon Fire TV Stick. Once you see the “Success” notification the app is ready for use on the Amazon device.
